Ten Reasons to Watch "Patrick Melrose" Immediately

'Patrick Melrose' (2018) is one of those masterpieces, that resonated with my heart so deeply, that it's been already more than a month since I finished watching it, but it's still haunting me from time to time. There are at least 10 reasons to catch up with this beautiful mini-series, based on semi-autobiographical novels written by Edward St Aubyn, and I will name those with a great pleasure. As usual, there will be no spoilers in this post, and I will try to write as short as possible to keep text clean, avoiding transforming it into an ode.

So, what is so special about 'Patrick Melsore' at all?

1. Benedict Cumberbatch's gorgeous performance.

You can name me 101 plays, where Benedict excelled himself as an actor of screen and stage, but his main role in "Patrick Melrose" was a true incarnation. Cumberbatch played like a master, he made me forget his real name, made me believe in him as Patrick, go through the whole story with him. I was compassioned and my emotions were twisted outside. Great actor. Huge respect.

2. Outstanding storytelling,  meaningful dialogs, great sense of humor.

There's nothing better, than a good storytelling and scenario, that make viewers think and laugh and cry and f e e l. The show's creators nailed it. 'Patrick Melrose' is a fast-burn show, dynamic, raw and rough, it's funny and sad at the same time. Worth watching second and third time. Full stop.

3. The story looks more than real and is very touching (and painful).

    Can't add anything to that.

4. Patrick Melrose gives a few rough life lessons...

And not only. It shows us, that it doesn't really matter, where are you from, was your family rich or poor: life is full of ups and downs and the worst is to struggle alone.

5. ...and hope

But if you have someone to rely on, then your path will be a little bit easier. 'Patrick Melrose' is a story of a man searching for everything what we all are searching for: love, acceptance, support, peace. He's fighting with his demons all the time, and sometimes he wins.

6. This mini-series uncover some first-class' secrets.

And this little fact can expand your horizon a lot.

7. Gives a new quality point to reach.

'Patrick Melrose' had definitely set up a new quality point for future series makers. There are no accidental details in this show. It's polished perfectly: the visual, the sensual and the musical content are stunning indeed.

 8. Absolutely great supporting cast.

Jennifer Jason Leigh and Hugo Weaving duet had created one of the worst parent couples on screen since cinematography exists. Good job.
Pip Torrens, Sebastian Maltz, Holliday Grainger etc., the whole cast deserves applause.

9. High-class director's and camera man's work (and so the rest of the crew).

10. Is definitely one of the best films of the last years.

Find some time and just give it a try.

Strong 9/10.
