Julie & Julia. Part I: Poached Egg

First time I heard about Julia Child and her 'Mastering the Art of French Cooking' in the 'Julie and Julia' film, with gorgeous Maryl Streep and Amy Adams. It's a good, sweet film about cooking, stubbornness, persistence and...love. If you haven't seen it yet - please do it (available on iTunes | Amazon), but don't even try to watch it with an empty stomach. Because if you will, there might be a huge devouring of all food in the house:)
There's a lot of great recipes, that we can get exactly from the film. Today we will do one of them and it will be... a poached egg!

What we need:

Egg/eggs. Room temperature. Super fresh.
Cold water
Vinegar (optional)
You can also prepare bread, vegetables, herbs. Just like you prefer:)

Preparation time:
15 minuter for everything

Sometimes it's really not so easy to change your breakfast habits. No matter where you live, you always have few ideas for a breakfast. Am I right? Poached egg is a very good variant to make a traditional breakfast more interesting.
Take an egg (eggs). Take a pushpin or a knife and make a tiny hole in an egg, from the large side. Why we're doing this? There's an air in the egg and it can crack it. And Julia Child says to do it, so..do it!
Then put the egg into a boiling water (there shouldn't be a lot of water, maybe 7-8 cm max) and wait for 10 seconds.

After 10 seconds take the egg from the bowl. Then - when the egg is chilling you can add vinegar into the boiling water. But this is absolutely unnecessary. I did it without it. Vinegar should help your egg to fold. Some people do a small whirlpool and pour an egg exactly into that whirlpool. But those things are absolutely unnecessary.
Take the egg and brake it and pour the egg very close to the water. Be careful!
Here's my egg boiling. This fascinates me completely! Looks like something unreal!

When the egg just 'dived' into the boiling water, take a spoon colander and easily, but quickly, drag the water top. From your moves the protein should cover the yolk. If there's some white stuff swimming or your egg doesn't looks super pretty, don't worry, you can cut every ugly piece later:)
Boil egg for 3-4 minutes, depends on your taste.
Take the egg and put it into a bowl with a cold water.

Looks like something not from this planet:)
Closer:

Keep the egg in the water for a few seconds. Done!:)
And now, use your fantasy! It really tastes good with some toasted bread and tomatoes.
I took a toasted black bread for myself.

While making poached egg, I ruined one huge myth for myself. I thought that it is really hard to do it and I will definitely spoil 1000 eggs, before I succeed. Hah!:) Now I can say: everyone can make poached eggs! All you need is to be a little bit attentive and be in conscious:)

About the taste: poached egg tastes much more lighter, that the egg boiled or fried in a regular way. And if you try to make a sandwich with it, believe me it tastes really good!

More photos with white toasted bread (different poached egg, of course:))

Bon Appétit! And have a lovely Wednesday everyone!
