Romance & Cigarettes (2007)

I don't like musicals. Truly. I don't like dancing and singing in films every 5 minutes, I don't like when later that songs stuck in my head like bubble gum in someone's hair. But Torturro's 'Romance & Cigarettes' opened a beautiful world of musicals for me. It's Friday and I think that's a perfect day to open this great comedy for you. And maybe you'll change your opinion about musicals in general:)

John Turturro is a cooperation with Coen brothers filmed a simple and hilarious story about a typical man Nick Murder (but being Steve Buscemi's colleague and having Susan Sarandon as the wife makes him really special;), an ironworker, father of three daughters, loving husband, and a good neighbor. His calm and easy life goes really mad when he meets Tula - passionate redhead woman.

What's going to happen when Kitty (Susan Sarandon) will finally figure out about Nick's love affair? Yes, she's going to kick him out and find that Tula, the Shiva of her marriage...

'Romance ans Cigarettes' is like a refreshing cold cocktail in the very hot day. Great sense of humor, soundtrack, pillow talks, and...Kate Winslet. In latex. Dancing in a burning house, eating chicken in bed, expressive and impressive woman, passionate and impulsive. Her role in 'Romance and Cigarettes' proves only how great actress she is.

Christopher Walken in every film is like a big present. This man is so charismatic, that I bet some people lose contentiousness when seeing him.

'Romance and Cigarettes' is about falling in love and lust, making mistakes, it's about freedom and values, it's a typical life story shown in a very unusual way.

It worth to watch even only for the scene, where Kate Winslet singing deep down in a lake.
I hope that Coen brothers and Turturro will show us more one day!

Good, underrated film. One of few musicals, that I love, not hate.
