My 'romance' with Park Chan-wook started from his stunning, shocking and killing 'Oldboy'.This film made a huge impression on me, it's in my private top-10 and I have a very weird weakness to this film (don't even want to talk about US remake..). Of course after 'Oldboy' I watched almost all Park's films, and, strange: I wanted to hide all his films and do not show them to anyone. Litterally. Anyone.
Park's 'signature' was always very visible in his films - I thought like this, until I watched 'Stoker'.
'Stoker' - is a mysterious story about one family, a story full of secrets and tension..
This film is a very special and unusual work for Chan-wook. First - because it's a remake of Alfred Hitchcock's 'Shadow of a Doubt', second of all - this film is with 100% US and European cast. And it's very strange to hear English language in the 'Stoker'. Mia Wasikowska, with her strange beauty fits into her role perfectly. Just like forever young Nicole Kidman does. And Matthew Godee.
The weird thing for me is how the guy named Wentworth Miller, who was critically acclaimed soooo many times as an actor, as a writer, could write such a good scenario(ghost writing?)?? Anyway he did it, and I have to say, that screenplay in 'Stoker' could be (especially for Park Chan-wook, especially the end of the movie) better, but it's very good anyway.
One of the most important things, I have to say about, is the soundtrack. Written by gorgeous Clint Mansell - music in the film is really beautiful and perfectly creates the right atmosphere.
But my favorite track is a 'Duet' written by my favorite modern composer, genial - Phillip Glass. Just watch the film and enjoy how perfect 'Duet' composition is.

Very interesting thing for me is how Park Chan-wook filled 'Stoker' with his East cultural sense of beauty. That's why I like directors from South Korea or from Japan f.e. - they feel and see everything around totally different: very delicate.
Visually 'Stoker' is absolutely beautiful and perfect. Excellence is in every single frame, in every scene.

I recommend for all of you to watch this film. Even if it's not perfect. You'll get a pleasure just watching changing frames, beautiful frames.
